Criteria
States aim and hypothesis clearly
ExcellenceAim is specific and testable; hypothesis is clearly linked to scientific understanding and states a predicted relationship.
MeritAim is clear and hypothesis is present with a predicted outcome, though the scientific reasoning could be stronger.
AchievedAim identifies what will be investigated; hypothesis is a simple prediction without full scientific reasoning.
Describes method accurately
ExcellenceMethod is fully reproducible: variables are identified (independent, dependent, controlled), steps are sequenced logically, and quantities are precise.
MeritMethod includes key steps in a logical order and identifies most variables, though some detail is missing.
AchievedMethod outlines what was done in a general way; variables are not fully identified.
Records and presents results
ExcellenceData is accurately recorded, clearly organised (table or graph with labelled axes/headings), and any patterns are noted.
MeritResults are recorded and mostly organised; a table or graph is present but may have minor labelling gaps.
AchievedResults are recorded in some form (list or rough table) but presentation could be clearer.
Discusses findings and draws conclusions
ExcellenceConclusion directly addresses the hypothesis using data as evidence; sources of error are identified and improvements suggested.
MeritConclusion addresses the hypothesis and references results; some acknowledgement of limitations.
AchievedConclusion states whether the experiment 'worked' but does not clearly link data to the hypothesis.
