Criteria
Develops and communicates design ideas
ExcellenceGenerates multiple annotated design ideas that address the brief; ideas are clearly communicated through labelled drawings or diagrams.
MeritDevelops at least two design ideas that address the brief and communicates them with some annotation.
AchievedProduces one design idea that partially addresses the brief; communication could be clearer.
Creates an outcome following the design process
ExcellenceOutcome closely matches the design plan; materials and tools are used safely, accurately, and purposefully.
MeritOutcome reflects the design plan with minor variations; tools and materials are used appropriately.
AchievedAn outcome is produced but it deviates significantly from the plan or shows limited skill with materials.
Evaluates outcome against the brief
ExcellenceEvaluates strengths and weaknesses of the outcome against specific brief criteria, with suggestions for meaningful improvement.
MeritIdentifies what worked well and what could be improved, with some reference to the brief.
AchievedMakes a general comment about the outcome but does not reference the brief or specific criteria.
Shows innovation and problem-solving
ExcellenceIdentifies and solves design problems independently during the process; shows creative thinking beyond the obvious solution.
MeritResponds to problems during making with some independence; shows some creative decision-making.
AchievedSolves basic problems with guidance; design choices are mostly conventional.
